ITINERARY DESCRIPTION
DAY 1: SALKANTAY- PAMPACAWA
Pick up at 7:00 AM from Cusco and drive for about 4 hours to reach Soray pampa passing by Mollepata (a small traditional village at 2800 m).
We depart towards the uphill trail for about 2 hours until we reach the pass (4990 m / 16617 ft), here We can see small wild birds and spectacular views of the Humantay snow peak mountain (5902 m), After approximately 7 hours of walking we arrive at our campsite pampacahuana (3900 m. / 12987 ft).
DAY 2: PAUCARCANCHA
We start at 8:00 am to walk down for about 5 hours, passing by Pampacahuana community until we reach the archeological site of Paucarcancha, near our campsite (2980 m / 9923 ft). Easy day… Leaving our camp after breakfast we walk downhill along the Pampacahuana river following its way towards the Wayllabamba community (3800 m), where we meet the classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchcu. From here we head uphill towards Llulluchapampa, and by afternoon arrive at our campsite (3680 m / 12254 ft).
DAY 4: PACAYMAYO
Now the trail ascends steeply (3km) until the first pass, Warmiwañusca (4200 m. / 13,986 ft). Here we have a breathtaking view of Huayanay mountain, here we will cross an area of cloud forest, which is the habitat for many different kinds of birds, Immediately after the pass, we will descend for about 2 hours to Pacaymayo Valley (3650 m. / 12,155 ft), where we camp
DAY 5: WINAYWAYNA
The most impressive day, and the longest, We will see several archaeological sites, We climb to the second pass called Puyu Patamarka, passing by the archeological site of Runkurakay. After going over the pass (3970 m) we will descend to Sayamarca archeological site (3624 m) to arrive at Phuyupatamarca (3650 m) Inka site. Along this route we can appreciate the magnitude of the Incas' ancient craft, continuing we will descend by many stone steps to the archeological site of Wiñaywayna (2670m, 8825ft), At this campsite, we will find a lodge with a restaurant, bar and bathrooms with hot showers.
DAY 6: MACHU PICCHU- CUSCO, OR SACRED VALLEY
We can leave around 5:30 am., In One hour and a gentle climb later we will meet Intipunku, (The Sun Gate), From this fabulous spot we will see the sunrise over the sacred citadel of Machupicchu, Continuing we descend into Machu Picchu (30 mins) here We will have a guided tour, and after that, you will take your free time to walk around, or you can visit the Temple of the Moon, the fabulous Inca bridge, climb the Huayna Picchu mountain, etc, after that, we will go to the village of Aguas Calientes, where if you like you can visit and relax in the thermal baths, by afternoon we will travel back to Ollantay Tambo, by train (2 hrs), continuing to Cusco by 2 more houses, or we can go to a hotel in Sacred Valley.
