Within the great path represented by Hatun Karpay, there are essential figures who uphold ancestral knowledge and open the portal to authentic transformation. We refer to them as the paqos, initiates, and guardians of the Andean spiritual tradition, who accompany the seeker on their journey toward a new state of consciousness. Without them, this sacred journey would simply not be possible.

Two figures stand out within the initiatory lineage: the Pampamisayoc and the Altomisayoc. Both are bearers of the ritual table (jamp’ara) and represent different levels of connection with Mother Earth and the tutelary spirits. The Pampamisayoc, whom we can consider the guide of the visible path, is an initiate who has consciously chosen the spiritual way, and who, with vocation and humility, becomes a servant of his community. The Altomisayoc, on the other hand, is the one who has been directly chosen by Pachamama or by lightning (Illapa), becoming a living channel of sacred wisdom.
These initiators not only lead the ceremonies but also fulfill multiple roles that form the living fabric of Andean spirituality. They are carriers of lineage, bridges between worlds, oracles, healers, officiants, and above all, guardians of harmony with Mother Earth. They know the art of the despacho, master the reading of coca, and deeply understand the principles that govern the Andean cosmos: Ayni (reciprocity), Munay (love with intention), Llankay (conscious work), and Yachay (living wisdom).
Within the framework of Karpay, these wise ones are responsible for channeling the energy of the rite into the heart of the initiate. They are not teachers in the Western sense, but companions of awakening—guides who know when to intervene and when to allow the traveler's soul to hear its own call. They are part of the Andean spiritual landscape, much like the apus, the ñustas, and Pachamama herself.
Today, the Pampamisayoc and Altomisayoc continue their work, crossing borders and sharing this legacy without distinction of race, gender, age, or belief. Karpay is open to all those who feel the call. And at Peru Alive, we aim to be nothing more than bridges for this connection to occur, facilitating encounters with these guardians who, from the heart of the Andes, still safeguard the wisdom of time.
Are you ready to walk alongside them? The path is alive. The table is set. The soul only needs to say “yes.”
